Trade-off Analysis (Service Planning)

Objective: Learn about the Trade-off Analysis feature

Trade-off Analysis allows you to compare the long-term effect on Levels of Service if you re-distribute budgets between asset classes.

It is different from the Year Level Comparison Report in that is allows you to compare simulations across multiple classes (Templates)

Trade-off Analysis

  • With a Portfolio selected
  • Click the "Service Planning" button or choose File/ Service Planning
  • Select Trade-off analysis from the drop-down menu
  • Select the simulations to be included in the analysis

It is best to choose simulations from alternate classes of assets with the same simulation years e.g. Current Spend 10-year analysis from Buildings, Roads and Bridges

  • Click View Report

This will present the Trade-off screen where budget adjustments can be made.

  • Initially leave this report unchanged and click 'Generate Report' to create and view the first Trade-off Analysis report (this is now our baseline)
  • Next, make changes in the trade-off screen and click 'Generate Report', this will generate a new report that can be compared to the first.

The Trade-off screen allows changing both the:

  • Inter-asset class budgets in the Portfolio section
  • And inter-year budgets in the Annual Budget section (Although this is better adjusted as part of the actual simulation tuning)

(Here we have original and adjusted trade-off screens)

The Service Level tab allows us to see the Service Level of each asset class side-by-side.

(This is two alternate reports side-by-side, in the second we can see that we are stabilizing or Service Levels)

The Budget tab allows us to see the Budgets of each asset class side-by-side.
