Grants Commission Report VIC
Information:
The Victoria Grants Commission (VGC) allocates revenue provided by the Commonwealth Government to municipal councils in Victoria according to the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995. The VGC is required to allocate these funds to councils in accordance with nationally agreed principles.
The Commission’s formula for allocating Local Roads grants is based on each council’s road length (for all surface types) and traffic volumes and includes a series of cost modifiers. Each year the commission gives councils the opportunity to provide information on the status of their roads, which is then used in the following year’s funding allocations.
Councils provide the Roads data in the format shown below (Section VGC3 (previously B1) and section ALG1 (previously B2) are attached in full at the end of the document):

Data required
The data required for the Grants Commission reports can be stored in Assetic myData and can be easily extracted from myData using the Advanced Search function.

Data Extraction
This document provides details about how to populate the necessary information into the Grants Commission tab in myData Roads Asset Category and how to use the Advanced Search function to extract data.
One data is available, it is easy to transfer into the Grants Commission report format for submission.
The following fields are available in the myData Roads Attributes tab:
All the fields listed above should be populated with standard values.
For Victorian Councils these fields should have values as outlined below:

Section VGC3 – Data Extraction
Section VGC3 - All Local Road Lengths – Part 1
- Go to Assets
- Select Advanced Asset Search
- Select Sealed Road Asset Category
- Run an Advanced Search for the following fields:
Once the Search function has returned the results, group them as indicated below:
In Advanced Search under Aggregate Summary use the Sum option to sum up all the segment lengths under different Grants Commission Traffic codes.
Preview of the Search Data
Populate the total length for each traffic code (including strategic routes) in the Section VGC3 of the report, with the information generated below:
Users can save this Search Profile
To save the Search Profile, enter the profile name in the Advanced Search dialogue box as shown below:

The procedure is similar to all local roads except a filter is used to extract strategic routes as shown below:
• Select following fields for Advanced Asset Search
• Populate the total length of strategic routes for each traffic code in Schedule B1 Report, with the information generated below:
• Save the profile with an appropirate name for future use
Section ALG1 - Data Extraction
Under Section ALG1, lengths of roads have to be reported by their surface types.
• Run an Advanced Search and search for the following fields:
Once the Search function calculates the results by Surface Type as indicated below:
• In Advanced Search under Aggregate Summary use the Sum option to sum up all the segment lengths under different Grants Commission Hierarchy codes

Save the Search Profile for future use
All these saved search profiles can be reloaded as and when required. To load a search profile, select the relevant profile name from the list and click Load Profile as shown below
